Some supermarkets will accept just the lid from a recalled jar Peter Pan Peanut Butter or Great Value Peanut Butter as proof of purchase for a refund. Others want the whole jar.
We checked with Price Chooper. Just the lid is fine with them.
The person we spoke to at Hannaford wasn't sure they could accept just the lid. So you might want to bring the whole jar there just to be on the safe side.
The folks at Wal-Mart tell us customers seeking a refund at their stores should return the product lid along with their name and mailing address to:

peanut butter recall
2111 - that's the product code you need to check for if you've got PETER PAN or Great Value peanut butter in your cupboard. ( the code will be ont he lid) It's being recalled.
Con Agra, the manufacturer, says some 300 cases of Salmonella in 39 states have been linked to product with that code. It all started in August. They say they have no idea where the contamination came from, that only one plant made THAT peanut butter and they're working with officials to track it down.
Symptoms of salmonella can include diarrhea, fever, dehydration,
abdominal pain and vomiting.
ConAgra says, get rid of the peanut butter - peter pan or great value - if it's product code starts with 2111 but keep the lid so you can get a refund.
Health experts say this would be the first time in U.S. history of salmonella in peanut butter.
