In her dad's memory ..

This is the first installment on an ongoing series of stories profiling folks who are donating their hair to LOCKS OF LOVE.

Casey Mullaney is 16 years old. On Sunday she'll be donating her hair at the Niskayuna Dutch Reformed Church .. 3041 Troy-Schenectady Road ( that's route 7)
Casey's dad died from brain cancer in 2001. She donated her hair then and has done so two more times.
On Sunday, Casey's being joined by more than 2 dozen other folks including a husband/wife team who are donating their hair. Clearly, as Casey's mom Rosemarie says "this cause is near and dear to us."
You can join in .. the haircut will be free of charge - local stylists are donating their time.
There will be refreshments.
To sign up call Casey at 785-5905 or email at lupin1929@aol.com

i had no idea -- though i've been watching the hairdo myself with some fascination - thanks for telling - i thought it was a fashion statement but i should have known that you don't do ANYTHING for a fashion statement - benita is all heart, all meaning and no fluff - your friend indeed

My ten year old son just grew his hair for locks of love, we are so proud of him. He had to put up with a lot of people mistaking him for a girl, but he was determined to finish what he had started. Two years later it was finally ready to cut and donate. His teachers and principal at his school were very supportive and proud of him. So see, boys can grow it too!

My 7 year old daughter Bridget donated (2) 13 inch beautiful ponytails to Locks of Love yesterday.(3-14-07).When Bridget was 5 years old she saw a little girl in the grocery store who had lost her hair. She felt bad for the little girl and wished she could give some of her hair to her.
I told Bridget about locks of love and from that moment she started growing her hair.
When we left Choices hair salon yesterday Bridget said to me "mom, I feel so proud knowing my hair will help a little girl without hair feel beautiful".(And her new short hair is adorable on her!!!)

I am growing my hair to donate. I have thick hair that grows really quickly and when I found myself with a ponytail I was ready to cut off I figured why not make it useful. I have close to 10 inches now, waiting for my last layer to reach the mark. I have asked many of my local salons, and they all tell me, we cut it, you mail it, and I was waiting to find a place that would take care of all it themselves. I am so glad I have waited, and would love to join you, Benita, in August. Because I don't have a personal cancer loss, this will help my 6 yr old daughter and I understand who is being helped by this. Thank you.
