Big heads up for people taking meds to treat their IBS.
On March 30 the makers of Tegaserod (Zelnorm) pulled the drug offf the market. It was the only approved drug for irritable bowel syndrome (constipation).
This follows analysis of 29 placebo-controlled, short-term trials. Those studies found a small but statistically significant increase in ischemic events, including angina and stroke: 13 such events, including one death in more than 11,600 patients versus one event among a placebo group.
If you're taking Zelnorm talk with your doctor about a new treatment plan.
Zelnorm is manufactured by Novartis.

This post is referring to the recall on Zelnorm. I have been taking zelnorm for two and a half years, it is my saving grace...for sure. Yesterday (20 days after the recall) I found on about the recall via a commercial from a lawyer saying "If you are taking Zelnorm and have had problems...call us now" I had no idea about the recall so after further investigating, I found out it was recalled. Should the pharmacy have contacted me and told me to immediately stop taking it? What is supposed to happen if you don't see it reported on the news? How else are you supposed to find out? Is there something in place currently for pharmacies (since they know your current medication status to send out a letter to people taking recalled medication?
Also, Zelnorm is taken by many people that cannot live without it, it is truly amazing for people like me. There is a tea out there called Kleritea that works wonders, it is amazing...I found it about a year ago and although it is not as good as Zelnorm, it may help a lot of you now that Zelnorm is not an option. Thanks, Jenn
